Baltimore City has been hit with a ransomware attack. Behind the scenes, the latest update estimates that they’ll have the issue resolved by the end of next week (~05/24/2019), but there appear to be no official statements offering that guarantee. Among other complications, the Baltimore City recorder of deeds can’t process any real estate transactions, and at least the underwriters we use at First Class Title (Fidelity and First American) won’t insure such transactions until the issue is resolved. If you were planning to buy or refinance a home in Baltimore City next week, it’s going to be delayed.
Ransomware is a type of malicious software, or malware, designed to deny access to a computer system or data until a ransom is paid. You can learn more about it by clicking here.
